ZIMSTAT operations are spread over five divisions, four of which are responsible for producing specific statistics while the fifth division provides administrative and technical support to the other four. These divisions are: the Population Census and Surveys, Social Statistics, Income Analysis, Production Statistics and Corporate Services divisions. ZIMSTAT also has branches which fall under the Director General’s Office. These are Public Affairs Legal Internal Audit and Risk, NSS Coordination, Quality Assurance and Methodology. The ZIMSTAT divisions are as describe below

1.  SOCIAL STATISTICS

Education & Gender Statistics

Education Statistics on enrolments, school attendance, level of education completed and literacy rates; Gender statistics are to ensure that all statistics are disaggregated by sex;

Judicial & Social Welfare, Living Conditions and Poverty Analysis Statistics

Occupational injuries and prison Statistics and Crime Statistics;

Labour Market Information Statistics

Statistics on labour ,employment status, economic activity, work related incomes, unemployment,

Tourism and Cultural Statistics

Statistics on Tourists, Visitors, Day trippers, Immigrants and Emigrants;

Health Statistics

Statistics on Morbidity and Mortality and Vital statistics.

2.    PRODUCTION STATISTICS

Agriculture, Environment & National Early Warning Statistics

Statistics on Area planted, Yield, Input use, Livestock size of herd, Farm and Holding size; Environment statistics, measuring human activities and the natural events that affect the environment, Quality and availability of natural assets, temperature, access to clean water, land cover and living;

Transport, Communication, Infrastructure & ICT Statistics

Statistics on Transport, Roads, ICT;

Industrial, Mining & Energy Statistics

Performance of the industry, General business climate, Investment intentions, Capacity Utilization and Gross Output;

Census of Services

A survey that covers establishments resident in Zimbabwe that are either registered and/or licenced by any arm of government and are mainly engaged in the rendering of services.The 2012 Survey of Services (SS) will be the first of its kind to be conducted in the Zimbabwe. Prior to this, ZIMSTAT conducted a Census of Distribution (COD) in 1980/81 whose focus was on retail; wholesale; hotel and catering; and the personal and household services trades. The Survey of Services therefore comes in as an expansion of the Census of Distribution covering establishments whose main activity is classified as services.

3.    INCOME ANALYSIS

Finance Statistics

Expenditure over GDP, Ratio budget deficit over GDP, Debt services ratio and savings over GDP;

National Accounts

Statistics on National accounts., Gross Domestic Product, Gross National Product;

Balance of Payment & External Trade Statistics

External trade statistics for the direction of international trade, Changes in Imports and Exports;

Prices Statistics

Statistics on prices, Consumer Price Index, Poverty datum line, building materials price index.

4.    POPULATION CENSUS

Cartography

Provision of maps and other mapping services across all divisions

Sampling

Sampling services such as designing sample surveys as well as maintaining and updating the sampling frame including drawing of sampling frame in the agency and NSS

5.    CORPORATE SERVICES

The Corporate Services division does not produce any statistics of its own but supports the four divisions that produce statistics. The division is the backbone of the ZIMSTAT operations providing internal services to all the other divisions. This division therefore maintains critical linkages among other divisions in ZIMSTAT. This division is composed of Finance and Administration, Human Resources and Central Services Subdivisions.

Finance and Administration

Finance and Management Accounting including financial reports, keeping accounting records and making payments. Administration is responsible for Procurement and distribution of assets and materials. It also handles travel bookings for staff members, office maintenance, repairs, health and safety of the working environment, security and recordkeeping 

Human Resources

Human resources is responsible for planning, recruitment and selection, compensation, training and development needs identification, job evaluation coordination, salaries and wages administration, records and HR statistics and handling grievances and disciplinary issues 

Central Services  

Provincial Operations

Data collection services for all surveys censuses across the country in collaboration with respective ZIMSTAT divisions. Data collection is done in 10 provinces across the country.

Management Statistical databases such as ZIMDAT and Central business Register

Iinformation Technology 

Data entry and Data Processing for all censuses and surveys for divisions Social, Production and Income Analysis. Management of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) which includes hardware and software support, networking, internet/e-mail support, website management and related IT Services

Public Information

Desktop publishing, designing of layout,  updating, formatting documents, Printing  of questionnaire and Reports and library services
